Edsel “Dick” Shupe – Sunman

 

Edsel “Dick” Shupe, of Sunman was born on September 8, 1938 in Lee County, Virginia, a son to Marion and Flora Irene Edens Shupe.  He served his country with the United States Air force. Dick married Alverta Wolljung on December 24, 1960 at St. John’s Lutheran Church-Hubbells Corner and together they raised three children.  He worked at Anchor Glass as a machine operator for over 38 years and in his spare time he enjoyed working in the yard, gardening, fishing, riding motorcycles and cleaning his cars.  On Sunday, February 3, 2019 at the age of 80, Dick passed away at St. Andrews Health Campus in Batesville. 

 

Those surviving who will cherish Edsel’s memory include his loving wife of 58 years, Alverta Shupe; children, Richard (Annette) Shupe of Sunman, Irene (David) Schutte of Sunman, and Clarence (Betty) Shupe of Batesville; eight grandchildren; two great-grandsons; one brother, Marion (Ann) Shupe of Ohio; five sisters, Marilyn Arnold of Idaho, Barbara Tindel of Virginia, Tina (Terry) King of Virginia, Brenda (Tony) Hatico of Texas, and Rebecca (Dennis) Flanigan of Ohio, as well as several nieces and nephews.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Pauline Shupe, and two brothers, Ansel Shupe and Charles Shupe.

 

Friends may visit with the family on Friday, February 8, 2019 from 10 a.m. until time of service at 12 noon at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home, 107 Vine Street, Sunman.  Burial will follow in Evangelical Union Cemetery-Hubbells Corner.
