Donald J. Kellerman

Donald J. Kellerman, age 90 of Oldenburg, died Sunday, September 23, 2018 at St. Andrew’s Health Campus.  Born May 13, 1928 in Oldenburg, he is the son of Elsie (Nee: Baumer) and Elmer Kellerman.  A 1946 graduate of Batesville High School, he married Leona Bessler September 16, 1950 at Holy Family Church in Oldenburg.  He would serve in the army during the Korean War attaining the rank of Sergeant.  Following the service, he worked as a Linotype Operator 10 years for the Batesville Herald Tribune and 35 years as Postmaster of the Oldenburg Post Office before retiring in 1993.

Don was proud of his German heritage and loved all things German from being a 30 year member of the Oldenburg German Band to making German sausage.  He also liked studying history, watching old westerns on T.V., cooking, reading, big band music and being the family photographer.  He had an old red pick-up truck that was like a member of the family and was a former member of the Eagle Fire Co. and a Boy Scout leader.  Don and Leona enjoyed fine dining.  He also enjoyed a good Manhattan and telling a good joke as much as he liked hearing them.

Don is survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.  He is preceded in death by his wife and parents.  Visitation is Thursday, September 27th from 9:30 – 11 a.m. at Holy Family Church.  Funeral services follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Carl Langenderfer O.F.M. officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military gravesite rites conducted by the Batesville V.F.W.
