The Batesville JV lost focus and tallied too many unforced mistakes as they fell in 2 games to Greensburg. (25-20, 25-17)Credit goes to the visiting team for playing clean volleyball and scrappy defense! Grace Laudick had a run of 4 consecutive service points in game 2. Kerigan Haskamp led the offense with 6 kills, while Katie Bedel managed 4 kills in the front line for the Lady Dogs. Their record falls to 4-1 as they hope to bounce back against Franklin County tomorrow night!
The varsity match was challenging due to our Jeckle & Hyde mentality. We just cannot put enough together to dominate a complete match. The lady dogs outplayed the pirates, but the inconsistencies kept the scores close enough for the pirates to see hope.
In general we error to much and allow teams to play with us throughout the match. But this is a learning curve we have to accept to make a stab at the post season. In every position we have the player we need, but every position needs to evolve into the team we need. We can dominate, as in set 3 tonight going up on the lady pirates 17-6, however or discipline lacks and gives glimmers of hope to visiting teams.
In all we had four girls with close to double digit kills on the night, with Hattie Westerfeld #20 leading with 15. We had 11 service aces with Kylie Laker #7 getting the lead with 4, and many girls in the double digit dig category.
Overall it was a four set win we needed, downing the lady pirates: 25-20, 22-25, 25-20, 26-24
We will travel to Franklin county tomorrow evening to try to extend the varsity win streak in the EIAC to two. Varsity is now 2-3 overall and 1-1 int eh EIAC. Start time at Franklin County is scheduled for 5:00. It will be the first match for the Freshman bulldogs; playing at the old high school gym. JV and varsity @ the high school.
