Indianapolis, Ind. – Now only Mario Andretti and A.J. Foyt have more career IndyCar poles than Will Power. The Aussie qualified atop the speed chart and starts Saturday’s IndyCar Grand Prix from P1. Power’s best lap around the road course at the world’s most famous racing facility took just over one minute, nine-point-eight seconds.
Rookie Robert Wickens was second-quickest today. Veteran Sebastien Bourdais qualified third. And rounding out the quick six that competed for the pole were James Hinchcliffe, rookie Jordan King, and Josef Newgarden.
Today’s top qualifying spot makes 51 IndyCar career poles for Power, and 258 for Team Penske in the series. In particular, this race has seen several of Power’s many career bright spots, having won the pole here two other times — both times winning from that most-coveted spot on the grid.
