For the second consecutive day, Kendall McCool threw a gem in the circle leading the Wildcats to their seventh consecutive victory 1-0. Franklin County had great defense in the field, and Maggie Wendel delivered the big hit in the third inning to lead the team. With the victory, Franklin County’s record improved to 14-3 on the year. New Castle’s record falls to 4-10.
While the Wildcats only put up one run in the game, the final stat line may be a little deceiving as Franklin County put a lot of ball in play with some power. They just happened to be hit right at the defense more often than not. The Wildcats also didn’t have a strikeout at the plate for the first time all season.
The lone run for the Wildcats came in the third inning when Gabby Mitchum led of the inning with a walk. She then advanced to second on a passed ball before Wendel delivered the big hit. Wendel drove a 2-1 pitch into left center field for the lone run of the game.
McCool was the winning pitcher for Franklin County. She pitched all seven innings, scattering six hits and zero runs while striking out nine and walking zero.
Graham took the loss for New Castle. She went six innings, allowing one run on three hits.
Kamryn McCool, Abby Orschell, and Maggie Wendel had the three hits for the Wildcats.
K Patton went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead New Castle in hits.
Franklin County will be back in action on Saturday morning as the Wildcats make the trip to Centerville to take on the Bulldogs. First pitch is scheduled for 10 AM.
