Irene A. (Raver) Schutte, 92, Greensburg, joined her Heavenly Father on Monday, February 26, 2018 while residing at Morning Breeze for rehabilitation. She was born March 12, 1925 in Franklin County, to Clem and Anna (Berkemeier) Raver. She married Raymond J. Schutte on August 21, 1946 in Oldenburg, Indiana and he preceded her in death on November 20, 1990. Irene attended Placke School in Franklin County and was a 1943 graduate of Batesville High School. For most of her life, Irene was a homemaker. She was awarded with 50 years of service by the Indiana Extension Homemakers Association in 2004. Over that time, she was active in many county and state activities. She served as the Homemaker Association president for two years, was a member of the Decatur County Extension Board and the Fair Board, a charter member of the Linger Awhile Home Economics Club for many years. She was awarded with the Extension Certificate of Distinction in 1994. She also won numerous awards including: 1992 Decatur County Older Woman of the Year, 1992 Senior Queen, Senior Volunteer of the Year 1997, and 2007 Homemaker of the Year. Irene was very active as a volunteer for Hospice and a volunteer tutor. Irene was a proud and active member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg where she was a Eucharistic minister. She was a 53 year member of the Daughters of Isabella and a 25 year member of the St. Lawrence Auxiliary. Irene enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting for her family, gardening, researching her family history, and traveling. She was proud to state she had visited all 50 states. Her family includes seven children; Raymond L. (Reva) Schutte, Brookville, Dave (Debbi) Schutte, Tennessee, Don (Nanci) Schutte, Jim (Nancy) Schutte, Marijean (Jim) Coy, Daniel (Helen) Schutte, and Karen (Dave) Eberhardt, all of Greensburg; one sister, Rita Grieshop, Batesville; 18 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; one brother, Paul Raver; two sisters, Dolores Walke and Marjorie Yorn. Family and friends will gather at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home to pray the rosary. Visitation will follow until 8:00 p.m. at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. The family will also receive friends from 9 – 9:45 a.m. on Friday at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg. The funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 2, 2018 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg with Rev. John Meyer officiating. Interment will be held in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Greensburg. Memorials may be made to the St. Mary’s School Fund or to the Our Hospice of Southeastern Indiana.
