Batesville, In. — A pair of refinery problems in Illinois are the reason gas prices are spiking right before the holiday travel period.
Senior Petroleum analyst from Indianagasprices.com, Patrick Dehaan says the Exxon-Mobile refinery in Joliet and the Marathon facility in Robinson are operating at limited capacity.
The Marathon facility is experiencing a malfunction at the coking plant, that should be fixed relatively soon. The plant in Joliet is experiencing other problems that could keep it out of service for a much longer period of time.
Dehaan says there could be a bright side to the story depending on where you plan to travel. This price increase is expected to only affect prices in Great Lakes State and northern Kentucky.
