Mrs. Geneva (Cole) Johnson, age 85, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on February 25, 1932, in Talbert, Kentucky, the loving daughter of the late, Chester and Polly (Herald) Cole. She was raised in Talbert, Kentucky where she attended high school. Geneva was united in marriage on November 24, 1956, in Jackson, Kentucky, to the late, Fred Johnson and to this union arrived 12 children to bless their home. Geneva and Fred shared 45 years of marriage together until Fred passed away on October 4, 2001. Geneva was employed for the US Shoe Factory in Vevay, Indiana, for 20 years. She was a former cook for the Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Vevay, Indiana, from 1989 to 2002. She was a member of the Old Republic Baptist Church in Booneville, Kentucky. Geneva enjoyed quilting, watching soap operas, flowers, reading her Bible, working crossword puzzles, but most of all, spending time with her loving family. Geneva passed away at 7:56 pm, Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at the Norton Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.
Geneva will be deeply missed by her daughters, Helen Gabbard and her husband: Junior of Altro, KY, Jalia Nelson and her husband: John of Crestview, FL, Carolyn Burns and her husband: Butch of Worthville, KY, Lake Rayls and her husband: Larry of Vevay, IN and Nancy Rose and her husband: Roy of Madison, IN; her sons, Larry Johnson and his wife: Anita of Louisville, KY, Fred Johnson and his wife: Tammy of Madison, IN, Phillip Johnson and his wife: Shelly of Vevay, IN, Mitchell Johnson and his wife: Joyce of Booneville, KY and Mark Johnson of Vevay, IN; her son-in-law, Kip A. Skaggs, Sr. of Vevay, IN; her 24-grandchildren; her 34-great-grandchildren; her 5-great-great-grandchildren; her several step-grandchildren and her step-great-grandchildren; her sister, Jalia Stamper of Newport, KY; her brother, Beech Cole and his wife: Mahala of Cold Spring, KY and her several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Polly (Herald) Cole; her husband of 45 years, Fred Johnson, died October 4, 2001; her son, Paul Johnson, died August 22, 1970; her daughter, Freda Joy Skaggs, died October 18, 2017; her granddaughter, Melissa Neve Johnson, died December 21, 1998; her grandson, Kip Arthur “Kippy” Skaggs, Jr., died October 9, 2003; her son-in-law, Charles Lewis “Chuck” Melton, Jr., died September 13, 1989; her sisters, Matilda Cole, Sally Turner and Hallie Herald and her brothers, Alex, Tom, Bill and Woodrow Cole.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, December 3, 2017, at 1:00 pm, by Rev. Patrick Turner at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.
Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
