Batesville, In. — Many people elect to not get up early and battle Black Friday crowds, many of those people participate in Cyber Monday. Experts caution consumers to protect personal information when making online purchases.
Security consultant Cliff Custer has the following guidelines for safe Cyber Monday shopping:
- Never use public or free Wi-Fi access to make purchases
- Consider using only one credit card or account for online purchases and check bank statements often
- Use trusted retailers and websites with HTTPS protocol
- If you use a smart phone tablet order through the vendor app- not their website
- Develop unique passwords for each site
- Avoid using debit cards
- Avoid clicking links in emails
