The Batesville Lady Bulldogs cruised past the Greensburg Lady Pirates on Thursday night to improve to 3-0 on the season and 2-0 in the EIAC. Batesville won the match 12 – 0 and outshot the Lady Pirates 43 – 2. The Lady Bulldog defense and goalkeeping combination recorded their second shutout of the season.
It was a beautiful night for soccer and the Lady Bulldogs scored early and often in the match. Taylor Rowlett opened the scoring 2 minutes into the game with a nice touch around the goalie to finish on an empty net. Rowlett added another just 2 minutes later off an assist from Liz Heidlage. Less than a minute later, Carlie Werner went 1v1 with a Lady Pirate defender and was fouled inside the box to earn a penalty kick. Werner took a perfectly placed PK to put Batesville up 3-0 just 5 minutes into the game. Rowlett would finish off her hat trick in the 7th minute off another assist from Heidlage. Werner added to her tally in the 14th minute after a great individual effort down the left sideline to beat the outside defender for the score. Batesville would add 3 more before the end of the half. The first was an own goal by a Greensburg defender after Rowlett crossed the ball into the box and the deflection went into the back of the net. Marigrace Anderson and Gabi Garcia both score in the last minute of the half. Anderson was taken out inside the Greensburg box and earned a 2nd PK for Batesville. She finished the PK with a great shot past the Greensburg GK. Garcia got loose on a breakaway and finished a nice left footed shot into the side net.
In the second half, Batesville experimented with a new lineup and put some players in different positions. They would add two more goals early in the half coming from the combination of Werner and Garcia. Garcia assisted Werner on the first goal and Werner would return the favor 5 minutes later when she found Garcia open on the 6-yard box for the score. Callie Main added the 11th goal with 18 minutes to go in the game on a nice assist from Catherine Raab. Abbey Prickel rounded out the scoring with a great left-footed strike from 20 yards out that was still rising when it hit the back of the net.
