Bear carcass found in northern Indiana

Auburn, Ind. — Indiana conservation officers are investigating a report of a dead black bear found near the intersection of State Roads 1 and 101 in Dekalb County. The investigation has not determined how the bear got there, but police are following leads to find the person responsible. Tips can be left by calling 800-TIP-IDNR.

Over the last two years, black bear sightings have been reported in southern and southeast Indiana, the first in more than 100 years. Sightings in southern Indiana have been reported in Jefferson, Jennings, Jackson, Scott and Bartholomew counties.

Officers say the bear in northern Indiana most likely came from Michigan.
