Frieda R. “Fritz” Thalheimer, age 97 of Batesville, died Friday, March 3, 2017 at St. Andrew’s Health Campus. Born November 23, 1919 in Oldenburg, she is the daughter of Nora (Nee: Haverkos) and Joseph Gehring. She married Marce Thalheimer September 12, 1942 at Holy Family Church and he preceded her in death March 21, 1999. A homemaker, Frieda was a member of St. Louis Church and a former member of Hillcrest Country Club.
She loved playing cards and was a member of several Bridge and 500 card clubs over the years. Although her eye sight had begun to fail, just the other week, she called out plays her family had missed playing solitaire. Before the onset of Macular Degeneration, Frieda was an avid reader, whose tastes leaned towards romance novels. She also used to do quite a bit of sewing and crocheting as well as putting out a garden and canning the excess for winter. After Marce retired, they enjoyed taking trips to Florida with friends, usually going for a few weeks at a time.
She is survived by her daughters Marcia Eckstein of Kokomo, Indiana, Linda Harlow of Southport, North Carolina, Lou Thalheimer of Columbus, Ohio, Sue Kelly of Pueblo West, Colorado; brothers Myron Gehring of Batesville, Dennis Gehring of Springfield, Illinois; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by sister Thecla Parker and brothers Rev. Gordon, Rev. Irvin and Rev. Owen Gehring.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 7th, from 9 – 11 a.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home. Funeral services follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Louis Church with Rev. Stan Pondo officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Margaret Mary Health Foundation Hospice.
