John loved the outdoors. Whether it was hunting and fishing or out in the woods splitting firewood. He would often throw on his hip waders, even in the cold weather and head out to go fishing. He enjoyed his fishing trips to Canada with his sons, grandsons, great-grandsons and sons-in-law. John loved to read western novels, he worked on crossword puzzles daily and enjoyed listening to classical music and the music by the Celtic Women. His true passion though was his family. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were truly dear to him and he was very excited about the new arrival of his great-great-grandchild in April.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law Dorothy and Craig Lynam of Georgetown, Texas, Karen and Tom Mathes of Columbus, Ohio and Mary Jane and Butch Nunlist of Oldenburg; sons and daughters-in-law John Fixmer of Columbus, Indiana, Robert and Kitty Fixmer of Cincinnati, Ohio and Mark and Sandy Fixmer of Greensburg, Indiana; sisters Betty (Jim) Hines of Cincinnati and Margie (Don) Duke of Bright, Indiana; 17 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
