James C. Slayback Jr., of Sunman, was born on April 11, 1925 in Moores Hill, Indiana, the son of James C. Sr. and Alice Stroup Slayback. He served his country during WWII in the United States Army, and later married Hazel Foutch. James was a construction worker as well as a custodian at Milan High School. In his spare time he loved to fish and hunt. On Wednesday, October 26, 2016, at the age of 91, James passed away at St. Andrews Health Campus in Batesville.
Those surviving who will cherish James’ memory include children, Diana King of Batesville, Joyce Davidson of Batesville, Paulette (Jerry) Shoemaker of Brookville, James Slayback of Sunman, Rick Slayback of Harrison, OH, and Darlene (Nathan) Owens of Batesville; 11 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren, and 9 great, great grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters, Pat Collins of Batesville, Henrietta Deaton of Moores Hill, and Sharon Roy of Nashville, IN, and brothers, Tom Slayback of Versailles and Joe Slayback of Illinois. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Slayback, sister, Faye Slayback, and brother, William Slayback.
Friends may visit with the family on Monday, October 31, 2016 from 11 a.m. till time of service at 1 p.m. at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home, 107 Vine Street, Sunman. Burial will follow in St. Paul Cemetery, Sunman, with full graveside military honors provided by the Sunman American Legion, Kenneth L. Driver Post #337.
