Edith “Gertie” (Lavender) Switzer, age 91, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on April 2, 1925, in Paintsville, Kentucky, the daughter of the late, Edward Paul and Grace May (LeMaster) Lavender. She was raised in Paintsville, Kentucky where she attended school. Gertie was united in marriage to Charles T. Kays and later united in marriage to Willis B. Switzer. Gertie was employed as a janitor for the Madison State Hospital in Madison, Indiana for 20 years. Gertie enjoyed ministering to others and will be dearly missed by her family. Gertie spent the last several years at Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Vevay, Indiana where the nurses went above and beyond taking care of her until her passing. Gertie passed away at 4:15 am, Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at the Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Vevay, Indiana.
Gertie will be dearly missed by her grandsons: James T. “Junker” May and his wife: Kelly of Vevay, IN and Charles May and his wife: Paula of Vevay, IN; her great-grandchildren: Benton, Brevon, Lacy, Troy, Luke and Eddie and her three-great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Edward Paul and Grace May (LeMaster) Lavender; her 1st husband: Charles T. Kays, her great-grandson: Connor May; her sisters: Mary Wallen, June Conley and Kitty Beatrice Preston and her brother: Stephen Wesley Lavender.
Graveside Services will be conducted Friday, September 2, 2016, at 3:00 pm, by Rev. Gary Shepherd at the Vevay Cemetery, 800 East Main Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.
