On the evening of Tuesday, August 30, 2016, Doris Marie Waldroup passed away at Manderley Health Care in Osgood, Indiana. Born on April 28, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Kermit and Lonnie (Vaughn) Upchurch. On March 27, 1948, she married the love of her life, Lawrence R. Waldroup. Together they had two childen, Larry David Waldroup and Kathy Mae Jones. Unfortunately, on September 11, 1992, her husband preceded her in death. For most of her life, Doris lived in Cincinnati, Ohio, but in 2006 she moved to Holton, Indiana to be with her son, Larry David Waldroup.
Doris had many interests and pastimes. She was proud to say she was a member of the Lafayette Missionary Baptist Church in Lafayette, Ohio. She constantly bragged about her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Her pastimes were varied. She and her husband enjoyed camping. She thoroughly enjoyed shopping, collecting dolls, sewing, and quilting. Many of her quilts were given to family members and friends. In the 1950’s she and her husband began jitter-bugging, which became one of her favorite activities.
Doris is survived by her son Larry (Cincinnati, Ohio); her daughter Kathy (Holton, Indiana); 3 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Bert Upchurch, and her sister Cora Metz.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the funeral home on Friday, September 2, 2016. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. with the funeral following at 7 p.m. The Rev. Clyde Shackelford will be officiating.
