Virgil H. Ruggles, 70, of Osgood passed away at 1:30am Thursday, March 31, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born at the Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville on August 15, 1945 the son of Herbert and Ann Fryer Ruggles. He was married to Carol June Rea on February 6, 1965 and she survives. Other survivors include one son Steven (Teresa) Ruggles of Greensburg; grandsons Zacheriah and Trent Ruggles; one brother Donald (Carol) Ruggles of Lincoln City; two sisters Kathy Ruggles of Avon and Janie (Willie) Grigsby of Versailles; also his beloved cat Joey. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his twin sons Nathan and Neal, who died in infancy. Mr. Ruggles was a 1963 graduate of Holton High School. He was a former employee of Arvins in North Vernon and retired in 2000 after 34 years with the Southeastern Indiana REMC in Osgood where he worked as a lineman and serviceman. Virgil’s favorite pastime was fishing and spending time with his family. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 3rd at 4pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Bro. Irvin Hart of the Osgood New Testament Christian Church officiating. Visitation will be from 2pm until time of services. Virgil’s wishes were to be cremated and burial will follow at a later date at the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles. Memorials may be given to the Osgood Fire Department or the Cliff Hill Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
