Dorothy Jean Gasper, 88, Westport

Dorothy Jean Gasper, 88, of Westport, passed away at 5:06 a.m. on Friday, September 27, 2024, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis with her family by her side. She was born on September 21, 1936, in Carthage, Indiana the daughter of Charles Bernard and Helen Louise (Maddix) Caldwell. She was born and raised in Carthage, graduated from Carthage High School in 1954 and moved to Ogden in   1955. She has been a Westport resident since 1997. She had worked for Mayhill Publishing in Knightstown for 24 years before moving to Westport and worked at Bass and Gasper Funeral Home with her son for 20 years. She was a member of the former Ogden United Methodist Church. Dorothy enjoyed quilting, antiquing, volunteering and being a chaperone at the Summer Special Olympics games supporting her granddaughter and many other athletes. She married William (Bill) Gasper in Carthage, on September 27, 1954. He preceded her in death on February 24, 1989.She is survived her daughter, Jeanie Gasper of Knightstown, her sons, Mike (Cynthia) Gasper of Westport, Tim (Nicole) Gasper of Spiceland; her grandchildren,  Timothy (Lauren) Gasper of Hatchechubbee, Alabama, Jessica (Nathan Cotter) Raynard of Indianapolis, Paul (Ashley) Gasper of Hartsville, Lee Van Horn of Bloomington,    Billie Jean Van Horn of Westport and Ashley Van Horn of Knightstown, Tiffany (Ray) Perkins of Knightstown; her great granddaughters, Emma Vise, Lily Vise, Carrie Maxwell all of Indianapolis, Harmony Gasper of  Hatchechubbee, Alabama, Kayli Raynard and Dylan Maxwell both of Indianapolis and Maddi and Elena Perkins both of Knightstown; her great grandsons, Christian and Conner Gasper of Hatchechubbee, Alabama, Benjamin Maxwell of Indianapolis and Brayden Gasper of Hartsville; her grandson-in-Law, Brandon Maxwell of Indianapolis; several nieces and nephews, also several good friends she leaves behind, Gwyn Adams, Linda Mozingo, Judith Russell and Louise Watts. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Helen Caldwell; her husband, Bill Gasper; her sister, Charlotte Roberts and her granddaughter, Rachel Gasper Maxwell. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Rev. David A. Scaggs and Pastor Gary Johnson officiating. A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown, Indiana. A time of visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Williams Syndrome Foundation or Decatur County Special Olympics through the funeral home.
