William Edwin Burkhart, 81

William “Bill” Edwin Burkhart, 81, of Greensburg, IN, passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 5, 1941 to Charles and Theresa (Hessler) Burkhart.

He graduated from Greensburg High School in 1959 and then enlisted in the Indiana National Guard in 1963. Bill was a dedicated worker in the Maintenance Department at Federal Mogul – BCA in Greensburg for 40 years before retiring in 2004. He would tell you he was a jack of all trades and a master of all. He enjoyed his time with friends and family, especially his grands.

Bill was a lifelong member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Greensburg. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion.

Bill and Ethel (Shadday) were married on May 22, 1971, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Greensburg, IN, and together they had two sons, Jared and Ryan.

Bill will be forever remembered by his wife of 52 years; sons: Jared (Amber) Burkhart, Ryan (Jenny) Burkhart, both of Greensburg; grandchildren: Emily, Anna, Mason Burkhart and Nolan and Maggie Burkhart; brother, Ed (Joann) Burkhart of Greensburg; sister, Luella (Marvin) Feldman of Indianapolis, IN; sisters-in-law, Betty Burkhart of Greensburg, and Mamie Burkhart of Hixson, TN; brother-in-law, Jim Wallpe of Batesville; as well as several in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Tom and Joe; sister, Rosemary Wallpe; father and mother-in-law: Dennis and Irma Shadday.

Family and friends will gather to pray the rosary on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at 3:30 pm at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 pm also at the funeral home. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Greensburg. An additional hour of visitation will be held prior to Mass. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to St. Mary Catholic Church and/or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
