Edith Comer, 103, Osgood

Edith L. Comer, 103, of Osgood passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, December 10, 2022. Born on January 19, 1919 at Locksprings in northwest Ripley County, her first cradle was a shoebox. Edith was the youngest of six children of Willard C. and Tella Williams Hull. She attended the Bethel one room school through the eighth grade and was a 1936 graduate of Holton High School. In 1939 she married Arthur Comer of Osgood. Together they raised six children: sons Gary (Pam), Neil (Marilyn), Glen (Sandi), and Mark (Marsha) all of Osgood, and their daughters Neva (John) Kilday of Greeneville, Tennessee, and Karen (Doug) Downey of Holton; 25 grandchildren, 69 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur, her parents, her brothers Roy, Earl, and Carl Hull, her sisters Ethel Tucker and Vernie Hughes, and her grandchild Emily Huntington, who passed away in 2011. Edith loved to bake. She was widely known for her sweet rolls, pies, and cookies. She also enjoyed quilting, gardening, and fishing. From 1946 to present she lived west of Osgood and her and Arthur’s home was the site of many watermelon festivals where often 700-800 friends and neighbors would gather in the front yard. She, and with Arthur before his death, hosted their annual wagon train weekend at the farm from 1976 through 2022. Just homemade fun on the farm. She is known for her kindness, her laughter and sense of humor. Never without a smile. In 1995 she completed, printed and published a book containing a journal of her life and family history of ancestors and descendants. Her family was her life. Her life is her family and she will be missed. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 10:30 am at the Hopewell Baptist Church, 2319 N county road 850 W, Holton, Indiana. Visitation will be at Hopewell Baptist Church on Friday, December 16 from 4pm to 8pm and also on Saturday from 9:30am until time of services. Memorials may be given to Hopewell Baptist Church in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Edith was an active member of Hopewell for over 80 years. She loved her Hopewell church family and they loved her.
