Ladies Varsity Soccer Wins The Battle For The Ball

The Lady Pirates hosted the Rushville Lions for the annual Battle For the Ball. This started in 2016 and last year the lady Pirates lost the trophy, but this year’s team brought it back home. The Pirates have won the trophy all but two years.

The first half was dominated by the Pirate offense. Starters included Senior Captains Macey Smith, Natalie Kalinowski, and Emilee Ernstes, along with Sophomores Ella Koors, Marissa Powers, and Madisyn Morlan. With the help of the defense, Greensburg took 10 shots on goal in the first half.

It was an assist from Maddie Haviland, who also saw a lot of game time, to Macey Smith that settled the first point for the Pirates. This point was late in the first half with only six minutes left but that would carry the Pirates into the half up 1-0.

The second half would be much of the same from the Pirates. They would take six shots on goal and Macey Smith again would receive an assist from Emilee Ernstes to settle her second point of the game. The final score was 2-0.

Freshman Keeper Madeline Shrader would see nine shots on goal and finish with a shutout.

This brings the Lady Pirates to 5-4 for the season and 1-2 in the conference. Their next game is Thursday (9/22) against Franklin county at home. The game starts at 5:30.
