Communities that implemented the program in 2016 saw on average a 60% reduction in cigarette litter.
The Dearborn County Solid Waste Management District is working in conjunction with the Dearborn County Anti-Litter Initiative this summer to distribute cigarette receptacles to local communities in order to reduce cigarette butt litter.
Pocket and car ashtrays will be distributed at the Dearborn County 4-H and Community Fair, at farmers markets and other community events.
