Swimming

At a recent boys’ basketball game at BHS, the senior swimmers at Batesville High School were recognized.  There were 6 young men and 1 young lady in this group.  It was quite an impressive resume for these swimmers.  I think all but one of the boys has been a state qualifier, and Matt Weiler has a chance this year to join Bryce Timonera as an individual swimming in the state finals.  At least half of these young athletes were academic All-Americans, and every one of them was on some type of record-breaking group of swimmers.  Like so many sports at Batesville High School, the athletic performance is enhanced by the academic achievements.  It is also quite interesting to find out how many total sports most of these kids do.  Five of the six boys are 3-sport letter winners.  Most of them list swimming, football, and track on their resume.

Coach Greene has led the swimmers since the inception of this sport at Batesville High School.  His record is outstanding and the academics of the athletes are even more remarkable.  TJ is able to do this despite having to find a pool for practice sessions, and he wins most of his meets even though Batesville does not have divers.  This is brought about by the fact that the pools they practice in are not equipped for diving practice.  They just recently annihilated their competition at the Centerville Invitational without scoring any points in the diving category.  TJ insists that the kids swim hard, maintain high grades, and conduct themselves as role models for their peers.  Congratulations!
