Next week at the Ripley County Tourney the 2014 Ripley County Hall of Fame class will be introduced. This years group includes David Bradshaw as a coach who won a state championship at JCD. The second inductee is also a coach from Milan, Randy Combs. Randy’s teams were consistently winners during his tenure at Milan. The next 5 will all go in for their basketball playing careers at Ripley County Schools. This group includes Rick Thola, a powerful inside force on one of the many Dave Porter powerhouses at JCD; Scott Holdsworth, a sharp shooting guard at South Ripley who now is a varsity assistant at Greensburg High School; Christina Kappes, another member of that great JCD five who made quite a run at a state title when girls basketball was just beginning; Tom Buck of Batesville who is the 4th member of the 1971 team that lost to New Castle in the semi-state; and Don Freyer, a Sunman Tiger player who averaged nearly 20 points per game in an era when 20 points won many games. The final member of this year’s class is Roberta Brandes, a meritorious service award inductee from Batesville. Bobbie ran the Ripley County Tourney for almost 40 years. She was also an original member of the Ripley County Hall of Fame Board. We hope all of you can be at the Boys Championship game on Saturday, January 11, at Batesville High School!
