2-run blast by Miami’s Jorge Soler in 7th haunts Reds in 3-2 loss

A 7th inning 2-run home run by Jorge Soler off of Reds pitcher Lucas Sims gave the Miami Marlins the lift they needed as they hand the Cincinnati Reds a 3-2 loss on Tuesday night.

The Reds fell behind 1-0 in the top of the 2nd, thanks to a Joey Wendle RBI double. The Reds answered in the bottom of the inning as TJ Friedl knocked Kevin Newman on an RBI double of his own to tie the game at 1.

Stuart Fairchild provided the most exciting play of the game in the 5th when he lofted a ball out to Jesus Sanchez, who was not able to make the catch in right field, allowing the ball to roll to the fence. Fairchild decided to go home and was able to score thanks to an errant throw to home by Luis Arraez on the relay, giving the Reds a 2-1 lead.

Scoring stalled until the 7th, where Soler the aforementioned home run that ultimately gave the Marlins the 3-2 win.

TJ Friedl went 1-3 with a double and an RBI.

Luke Weaver pitched a no decision on the mound in the loss, going 4 and 1/3 innings, striking out 6 while allowing 1 run on 5 hits.
