May Devotions set for Monday

Oldenburg, In. — In honor of the new feast day proclaimed by Pope Francis, “Mary, Mother of the Church,” the Sisters of St. Francis invite the public to join them for May Devotions on Monday, May 21 at 6:30 p.m.

Pope Francis has decreed that Latin-rite Catholics around the world will mark the feast of “the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church” on the Monday after Pentecost each year, and the Sisters of St. Francis in Oldenburg will honor this feast day with their May Devotions.  Congregational Minister, S. Maureen Irvin, commented, “Honoring Mary as mother of the church on the day after Pentecost also highlights for Catholics that Mary was present with the disciples on Pentecost, praying with them as the Holy Spirit descended. We invite the public to join us for our outdoor service to be held at the Our Lady of Fatima Shrine on our campus.”  Guests are invited to bring a lawn chair if desired.

The Fatima Shrine in Oldenburg is a favorite photo site.  Visitors to the Sisters’ campus often walk the scenic bench-lined path to the Our Lady of Fatima Shrine, and pause for prayerful reflection.
