Harley V. Uhlmansiek, Jr. of Aurora passed away Monday Oct 31, 2016 at Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati, OH.
He was born in Milan, Indiana on February 8, 1945 to the late Harley Uhlmansiek and Esther Uhlmansiek.
Harley married Janice Higham on January 17, 1969 in Virginia.
Harley attended Purdue prior to enlisting in the Army. While in the Army, Harley was an MP assigned as a Sentry Dog Handler. After leaving the Army, Harley spent 20 years with the Shelbyville Police Department where he retired in 1990 as Captain of Detectives.
Harley was a Lifetime Member of the Shelbyville FOP, member of the Aurora American Legion and the Dearborn County 4-H Association. Harley was involved with Farm Bureau for several years during his retirement. Harley was a former member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and recently attended Sparta Baptist Church.
Survivors include his mom, Esther of Aurora; his wife, Janice of Aurora; daughter, Sherri Mains of Knightdale, NC; son, Tim (Shelly) Uhlmansiek of Shelbyville, IN; granddaughter Amber Mains and great-grandchildren Lesleigh and Daphne of Greensboro,NC; and Molly the family pooch.
Harley enjoyed fishing and spending time on his farm. He especially liked having wood cutting parties with his family and friends.
Friends will be received Sunday, November 6, 2016 from 1 – 4pm at Rullman Hunger Funeral Home. Services will be held at 4pm at the Funeral Home. Military services will be conducted by members of local Veterans Services Organizations.
