#1 Twisters Defeated By Wildcats

The #1 ranked 1A Twisters traveled to #9 3A Wildcats of Franklin County on Friday, April 30th for a twilight baseball game. The Twisters fell 9-8 as the Wildcats won on a walk-off hit-by-pitch in the bottom of the 7th.

It was a sloppy game all the way around as the teams combined for 12 errors. The Twisters fell behind 1-0 after the first frame but answered back in a big way in the top of the 2nd. Sophomore Charlie Schebler came up with the bases loaded and with one swing of the bat, he cleared them. Schebler hit a grand slam over the right-field fence to give the Twisters a 4-1 lead.

After that, it was a battle for each team to keep the lead. The Twisters and Wildcats would go back and forth on taking the lead. Ultimately, in the end, the Wildcats got the final lead in the bottom of the 7th. At the plate, the Twisters were led by Charlie Schebler who was 2-4 (grand slam, 4 RBIs).

Sr. Chris Hautman got the start and no-decision on the mound as he went 4 2/3 allowing 6 runs (all unearned), walking 4, striking out 3. Charlie Schebler got the loss as he pitched the final 2 innings giving up 3 runs (all unearned), allowing 2 hits, allowed 4 runners reach base via walk or HBP.

“This was a tough game. We had some very bright moments but then we had a lot of low moments. Baseball is very simple: catch and throw the ball. Having 7 errors shows that we did not do that very well today. However, this is something we can fix. Franklin County is a very good team. But we didn’t play to our full potential.” Coach Behlmer said after the game.

The Twisters are 1-2 vs EIAC teams and both losses are by a combined 2 runs. The Twisters will look to rebound vs SW-Hanover on Monday, May 3rd.
