Youth Baseball

March 26, 2013

Thanks to all the people of Batesville who banded together to make the Youth League possible after the barn fire. I understand that several business people donated either equipment or money to replace what was lost in the fire, and a large group of volunteers did what they could to make up the rest. Some of the loss was covered by insurance, I understand. I have been told that the next project will be to replace the barn with some type of storage building and then try to pave the lot and the driveways to the complex. I hope the park groups are able to find grants that will make this possible. It will be a few years before tourneys and the like will bring in monies to offset the cost of operating this facility. I wonder if the culprits who burned the barn were just out for orneriness or were involved in that old-time tom foolery of trying their first smoke. Either way, a lot of hard work went up in smoke and a community had to come to the rescue again. If you have a chance this summer to help in any way, please get out and do so. The good kids in town deserve it!
