OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAVirginia Pherebe Jacobsen, 97, of Aurora, passed away at her home on the morning of Thursday, March 13, 2014. She was born on March 15, 1916 in Aurora, Indiana, daughter of the late Dr. Omer H. Stewart and Bessie DeMotte Stewart.

Virginia graduated from Aurora High School in 1934, attended Indiana University for 1 year and then graduated from Christ Hospital School of Nursing in 1938. At IU she was in the Phi Mu Sorority. She married Odell Jacobsen in Tacoma, Washington on June 30, 1939

Virginia had three children, Jerry Jacobsen (wife Kathy), Omer Jacobsen, and Beth Lemke (husband Gary). She had 3 grandsons, Jed Jacobsen (wife Sharon), Eric Jacobsen, and Jared Lawrence (wife Jennifer). She was blessed with 3 great-grand-children, Sohmer Lawrence, Marin Lawrence and Patrick Jacobsen.

Virginia loved her family, her nursing career, living in the country and her pets. In the early nineteen sixties, for several years she was acting director of nurses for Dearborn County Hospital. Following that she was instrumental in setting up the nursing program at the Elsie Dreyer Nursing Home, now Woodland Hills. She has worked as a school nurse, a county health nurse and various other positions. Virginia was a world traveler, visiting Europe, Russia, Egypt, Israel, China, Australia and others. She enjoyed her church, Aurora First United Methodist, Tri Kappa Sorority, her nursing association, her card group, friends and painting. She enjoyed being busy and driving her car.

She was preceded in death by her husband Odell and her sisters, Anna Stewart, Vickie Althoff and Judy Poshard.

Family and friends will be received on Friday, March 21, 2014 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at the Rullman Hunger Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at the Rullman Hunger Funeral Home, Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 11:00am, with Chaplain Debbie Allen officiating.

Interment will follow in the Riverview Cemetery, Aurora, Indiana.

Margaret Mary Health has partnered with Hoxworth BloodCenter, University of  Cincinnati to host a Community Blood Drive on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 from 8:00am-11:00am & 12:15pm-2:00pm.  The Hoxworth Donor Bus will parked on the lot, located at 312 Mitchell Ave., in Batesville, IN.   To schedule your appointment, please visit www.hoxworth.org/groups/margaretmary or call the laboratory at (812) 933-5274.  Hoxworth recognizes that blood donors’ time is valuable.  Priority will be given to donors who have scheduled an appointment.  Walk-in donors are welcome and will be seen as soon as possible.   “Local blood donors ensure that local patients at 30 area hospitals receive the lifesaving blood products they need to survive,” said Alecia Lipton, Hoxworth spokesperson.  “Community blood drives are vitally important and we hope to see a good turnout at the Margaret Mary Health blood drive.”   How to Donate: Donating blood is safe and easy.  Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 with a signed parental consent) and in good health.  Individuals must weigh at least 110 pounds and bring identification to donate.  It is recommended that donors eat a good meal and drink plenty of water within four hours before donating.   About Hoxworth: Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati, was founded in 1938 and proudly serves 30 hospitals in 17 counties in[...]
