Area schools hold Veterans Day events Tuesday

BATESVILLE, Ind. – Several schools and organizations are holding events in honor of Veterans Day.

A ceremony was held Monday honoring Purple Heart recipient Carl Schwier. The World War II veteran served in Europe and was a member of the American Legion Post #337 in Sunman. He passed away on June 23, 2014.

The ceremony at the Ripley County Courthouse Annex and was attended by family along with State Representative Randy Frye (R-Greensburg).

Batesville Middle School is hosting a Veterans Day program in the gym Tuesday morning. The event is open to the public including veterans and registration begins at 8:30 a.m.

Teacher Lisa Barnett told us there are 83 veterans who have preregistered for the program.

Brookville Elementary, Brookville Middle School, Laurel School, Mt. Carmel School and Franklin County High School are also hosting Veterans Day events Tuesday.

A World War II tribute program will be held in Metamora at 7 p.m. Friday. It is sponsored by Historic Metamora Inc., Brookville VFW Post 2014 and Metamora Performing Arts (MPA). The program will be held at the MPA Opry Barn.
