Two Jailed On Heroin Suspicion, Another Man Sought

Two individuals are in jail, another person remains on the run, and four kilos of heroin are off the street, an Indiana State Police spokesman said Thursday.

Authorities received information on Wednesday afternoon that a person in possession of “a large quantity of drugs” was staying at a Greensburg hotel. Police set up surveillance on the hotel and the vehicle they believed to be associated with the person.

Shortly after midnight, a pickup truck with Ohio license plates occupied by two people pulled into the hotel parking lot. One occupant got out of the truck and into the car police were watching, a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu with Illinois plates.

Both vehicles left the parking lot together and went east on Interstate 74. As troopers followed behind, the two suspected vehicles traveled through Franklin and Ripley counties. Troopers stopped both vehicles near the 163 mile marker, just west of S.R. 1, in Dearborn County after alleged traffic violations were committed.

According to police, the occupant of the Malibu fled on foot. A subsequent search of the car revealed four kilos of heroin, police say.

The driver of the pickup, identified as Kurt Holmes, 23, of Springdale, Ohio was detained. He was booked into the Dearborn County Jail where is facing Possession of a Controlled Substance with more charges possible.

A short time after the occupant fled from the car, troopers contacted the authorities in Greensburg. Officers with the Greensburg Police Department went to the hotel and took 32-year-old Luis Magallon, of Roselle, Illinois, into custody. According to a law enforcement official, Magallon was remained at the hotel while state police followed the Malibu and pickup truck.

Magallon was booked into the Dearborn County Jail under suspicion of Dealing in Heroin (Over Three Grams) and Conspiracy to Deal in Heroin, both charges are listed as class A felonies.

The individual who allegedly fled from police during the traffic stop although not immediately apprehended, has been identified and will also face charges. Police are not releasing information regarding the identity of the suspect.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
