Three People Injured In Batesville Crash Friday

A two vehicle accident sent three people to the hospital and snarled traffic at a busy intersection in Batesville Friday night.

Emergency personnel responded to the crash at the intersection of SR 46 and 229 around 7:50 p.m.

Paul Hartman, 75, of Batesville was traveling west on SR 46 when he attempted to turn north onto S.R. 229. He turned into the path of a westbound vehicle driven by Steven Metcalf, 30, of Brookville, according to Batesville Police Chief Stan Holt.

Both Hartman and his passenger, Elizabeth Macke, 76, of Batesville, were transported to Margaret Mary Health with injuries.

Metcalf was airlifted to UC with more severe injuries, Holt said.

The accident tied up traffic and commuters were unable to drive through the intersection until the accident scene was cleared.

Batesville Police, Fire and EMS 10 responded to the accident.
