The New River Downs

Belterra Park is the latest racino to open in the tri-state area.  It, of course, replaces River Downs.  Today this entertainment facility starts live thoroughbred racing.  It seems that today to stay in business you have to tie horse racing with some other form of gambling.  Racinos have the video slots that a player can put money in between the live race.  They are also OTB (off-track betting) sites.  This means that you are capable of placing a bet on any horse race going on during those hours  that you are at the racino.

People are not happy today unless they can lose money rapidly.  Since live horse races are 20-30 minutes apart, this allows active betting of several types constantly.

I liked River Downs because it was a beautiful horse track.  I enjoyed those times between races where you could sit back, enjoy the view and contemplate your next bet.  Thank heavens we still have Keeneland and Churchill Downs close enough to satisfy this type of racing fan.
