Suspect arrested in fatal Laurel shooting

Bertram Rayburn Jr. has been booked into the Franklin County Jail where he is facing murder charges.

The Laurel man was arrested hours after state police announced they were searching for him on Monday.

State troopers said they received several tips leading them to the Laurel Tavern. Rayburn was arrested without incident around 3:30 p.m.

Rayburn Jr. is accused of shooting 59-year-old Dwight Jones in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Nov. 4.

Jones died one day later in an Indianapolis hospital.

Detectives say the incident appears to be domestic-related.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ind. – Police have issued a warrant for a man wanted in connection to a fatal shooting in Laurel on Tuesday, November 4.

An arrest warrant for murder has been issued for Bertram Rayburn, Jr., 61, of Laurel.

Investigators say Rayburn should be considered armed and dangerous.

Franklin County deputies found Dwight Jones, 59, inside of a pickup truck at 110 Edgerton Street with a gunshot wound.

Jones was later pronounced dead at an Indianapolis hospital.
