The death of a Sunman teenager is being investigated after his body was found in a private pond.
The mother of 19-year-old Thomas Herring noticed he was missing Wednesday around 2:00 p.m. and began looking for him.
When he was not in the house, she looked in the woods behind the home. His father located clothing beside a neighbor’s pond where it appeared Thomas went swimming, officers said.
The body of Herring was located in the pond around 7 p.m.
Indiana Conservation Officer Divers located his body in approximately 8 feet of water and 10 yards from a small fishing pier in the pond.
Authorities are trying to figure out what led to Herring entering the water. They say he was not considered to be a strong swimmer.
