S.R. 46 Bridge Reconstruction Begins August 11

DEARBORN COUNTY—The Indiana Department of Transportation plans to close S.R. 46 at its bridge over I-74 on or after Monday, August 11.

A detour utilizing I-74, S.R. 1 and S.R. 101 will route traffic around the S.R. 46 closure, located west of St. Leon in Dearborn County, until bridge demolition and reconstruction are completed in approximately three and a half months.

Duncan Robertson, Inc., of Franklin, is the state’s contractor for a $2.1 million Seymour District bridge project which includes replacing the bridge’s aging superstructure.  Steel beams will be used in place of existing concrete beams.  Piers will be repaired.  New bridge approaches will be built and a new bridge deck will be constructed atop the 258-foot-long structure.

The project will require single-lane closures of I-74 at the bridge site while work is being done overhead or on adjacent bridge piers.  Interstate motorists will experience short-term directional closures when steel beams are hoisted into the place during nighttime hours.

More than 4100 motor vehicles per day cross the S.R. 46 bridge.
