KrogerSr. Laurita Kroger, O.S.F., age 99 of the Srs. of St. Francis in Oldenburg, Indiana, died Sunday, March 9, 2014 at the convent.  Born September 30, 1914, she is the daughter of Katherine (Nee:  Hirsch) and Joseph Kroger.

She entered the convent October 2, 1936 and made her final vows August 12, 1944.  Sr. Laurita worked as a secretary in her family’s business for four years prior to entering the Sisters of St. Francis of Oldenburg.  She was a teacher and principal for 28 years at schools in Ohio and Indiana.  She taught at Our Lady of Angels in St. Bernard, Ohio, Scecina High School and St. Mary Academy in Indianapolis, as well as Immaculate Conception Academy in Oldenburg.  Sr. Laurita also served as an administrator at Marian College for 17 years.  She was a Community Councilor and Treasurer for 6 years.  She remembered her years in Administration at Marian College were challenging because this was during the 1960s with student unrest through the country.  Her years of Community Leadership included the years when many of the Sisters left community and the pain that remained behind them.  Sr. Laurita returned to the Motherhouse in 1988 for further Motherhouse ministry and eventual retirement of Prayer and Praise.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters Louise Kroger, Margaret Poelking, Katherine Moosbrugger; brothers Herman, Bernard, Joseph, William, Claude and Paul Kroger.

Visitation is Wednesday, March 12th, from 1 – 3 p.m. at the Srs. of St. Francis Motherhouse Chapel in Oldenburg.  Funeral services follow at 3 p.m. with Rev. Joseph Nelson, O.F.M. officiating.  Burial will be in the convent cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the Srs. of St. Francis, P.O. Box 100, Oldenburg, Indiana  47036 (www.OldenburgFranciscans.org).  Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville is in charge of arrangements (www.weigelfh.com).
