Your Home for the Reds

Cincinnati Reds News
Bruce homers twice, but Reds fall
Daryl Thompson struggled in his third Major League start and put the Reds in a hole they couldn't get out of, as Cincinnati dropped a 9-5 decision to the Pirates on Wednesday
Bruce heating up for Reds
Jay Bruce was mired in a 6-for-47 slump from June 14-27, striking out 19 times and notching just one extra-base hit. Since then, however, he has returned to his hot-hitting ways, going 6-for-15, with two home runs and five RBIs in his last four games.
Baker has meeting with Reds owner
Reds manager Dusty Baker spoke with Reds owner/CEO Bob Catellini, after Wednesday's 9-5 loss to the Pirates. Baker said that Castellini said to him to 'keep his head up'.
Fogg pining for return to rotation
Josh Fogg was in the Reds' clubhouse prior to Wednesday night's series finale against the Pirates, but the rehabbing pitcher had no clue when, or even if, he would have a chance to rejoin the team.
Gonzalez to miss rest of season
Reds shortstop Alex Gonzalez's 2008 season never got started. And now, it's already over. The compression fracture in Gonzalez's left knee has not improved and the 31-year-old has opted to undergo season-ending surgery on Monday.
Roenicke originally had gridiron dreams
When Josh Roenicke finished high school and enrolled at UCLA, he didn't exactly envision a career as a professional baseball player. Roenicke was a football player.
Reds fall to Pirates in extras
Jack Wilson's RBI triple in the top of the 11th inning snapped a three-game winning streak for the Reds, who dropped a 6-5 decision to the Pirates on Tuesday before 19,345 fans at Great American Ball Park.
Shortstops abundant for Cincinnati
With Jeff Keppinger and Jerry Hairston Jr. back from the 15-day disabled list, the Reds have been forced to be as creative in their handling of their abundance of shortstops as they were before with their massive shortage.
Freel making progress in recovery
Injured utility player Ryan Freel is making progress from a torn right hamstring tendon, but he is still not close to returning.
Dunn switches to ash bats
Adam Dunn has had it with his maple bats, and keeping with the recent trend around the league, is switching to ash bats.
Ross starts against Bucs lefty Duke
David Ross doesn't usually catch Edinson Volquez, but he was in the lineup anyway on Tuesday as the Reds prepared to face Pirates lefty Zach Duke.
Griffey's walk-off blast boosts Reds
Ken Griffey Jr. hit a walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Reds a 4-3 win over the Pirates on Monday night.
Reds eager to move up in standings
With back-to-back home series this week against a pair of teams struggling just as much as they are -- the Pirates and Nationals -- now is a golden opportunity for the Reds to escape from the cellar.
Griffey closing in on All-Star bid
Ken Griffey Jr. has an even firmer grip on a starting spot in the All-Star Game after he moved up to second in votes among National League outfielders in ballot totals revealed Monday.
Griffey sits vs. Bucs lefty Maholm
Dusty Baker reasoned that the decision to sit Ken Griffey on Monday was because of the match-up against Pittsburgh's lefty starter, Paul Maholm. Jay Bruce moved to right field, while Jerry Hairston started in center.
Big inning helps Reds win road finale
A five-run fifth and Adam Dunn's three-run home run in the seventh gave the Reds an 9-5 win over the Indians on Sunday.
Swinging into history: Griffey's 600th
Baker has plenty of lineup options
A late-night note taker, Reds manager Dusty Baker often wakes up with a thought for the next game and writes it down. It's likely he'll be scribbling down lots of notes over the next few weeks, especially different lineup combinations.
Encarnacion returns; Bruce, Votto rest
Third baseman Edwin Encarnacion and his no-longer sore back were back in the Reds' lineup Sunday for the first time in a week.
Reds clinch Ohio Cup behind Cueto
Reds rookie Johnny Cueto pitched 6 1/3 scoreless innings as the Reds defeated the Indians, 5-0, Saturday night at Progressive Field. With a 4-1 record in Interleague Play against Cleveland this season, Cincinnati has claimed the Ohio Cup series.
Hairston playing through pain for Reds
Every now and again at his shortstop position, Jerry Hairston Jr. needs to pause before he can shake off the pain. Hairston just returned from a fractured left thumb on Thursday, and the injury still bothers him. Plus, he's had his share of run-ins with the ball this weekend.
Reds might rest scuffling Bruce soon
On Saturday, Reds outfielder Jay Bruce played in his 31st consecutive game since his big league promotion. The rookie has been rested from the lineup just once thus far. That could change, as manager Dusty Baker is contemplating giving a rest to Bruce, who has been scuffling at the plate.
Five-run sixth spells doom for Reds
The Reds were done in by a five-run sixth inning and dropped Friday's series opener to the Indians, 6-0, at Progressive Field.
Dunn not used to designated-hitter role
Adam Dunn was 0-for-4 with two strikeouts as the designated hitter in the Reds' loss to the Indians on Friday. It's likely he will be hitting for the pitcher again during Saturday's game vs. Cleveland. If he had his druthers, Dunn would prefer to roam left field like he usually does.
Griffey makes offer for 600th HR ball
Griffey makes offer for 600th HR ball
Encarnacion could return Sunday
Not yet for an Edwin Encarnacion return, but it could be close. The Reds third baseman missed his fourth straight game Friday because of lower back spasms. He's likely out for Saturday's game against the Indians as well.
Dunn eager to get bat back from C.C.
Adam Dunn was more than happy to provide his buddy C.C. Sabathia with a bat to use in Interleague Play. But apparently the bat was a loan, not a gift.
Griffey's No. 600 ball to hit auction block
The ball that Ken Griffey Jr. hit for career home run No. 600 is going up for auction. Joe Scherer, the Marlins fan who caught the milestone baseball at Dolphin Stadium on June 9, made the announcement on Thursday. The ball will be auctioned Aug. 1.
Moving on up: Thompson debuts
Fantasy Report: Thompson earns spot
Volquez finally endures tough start
Edinson Volquez gave up a season-high seven runs in his first rough night of the season as the Reds fell by a 7-1 score to the Blue Jays on Thursday at Rogers Centre to drop two of three in the series.
Reds eyeing winning road trip
A winning road trip still is attainable for the Reds. Cincinnati took two of three at Yankee Stadium before it dropped two of three at Toronto to sit at 3-3 on the trip. Two wins over the Indians in Cleveland would give the Reds their first winning trip of 2008.
Hairston returns to action for Reds
The fracture in Jerry Hairston Jr.'s left thumb probably isn't 100 percent healed. It still gives him some discomfort. As far as Hairston, who was activated from the 15-day disabled list on Thursday, was concerned, it was ready enough.
