Scammers Continue Targeting Locals By Phone

BATESVILLE – It’s worth noting this potential scam after one local citizen received a disturbing phone call Tuesday.

We’re told a scammer posed as an FBI agent claiming they would send somebody to arrest her, but also did not demand money over the phone.

While a bit different than other scams we have previously reported on, it has similarities such as involving a man with a foreign accent.

The area code the call came from was 310, which is in the Bay Area of Northern California.

Some scammers pose as an IRS representative that may also threaten apprehension.  Either way, it is important to never give out personal banking or identity information unless you are for sure who you are speaking with.

Residents who have been targeted over the phone should file a complaint with the Internet Crime Complaint Center website, which is a partnership between the FBI and the National White Collar Crime Center.

If you experience fraudulent or suspicious activity from someone local, such as a suspicious door-to-door salesman or someone offering to do housework without your request, contact local authorities immediately.
