Rushville police officer resigns, accused of giving alcohol to minors

rushvilleRUSHVILLE, Ind. — A Rushville police officer resigned after he was accused of letting minors drink at a department Christmas party last week.

According to Rushville Police, 3 teenagers were arrested for consumption of alcohol during the department’s annual Christmas banquet.

The teenagers were drinking in the parking lot outside the Rushville Knights of Columbus, and appeared to be intoxicated.

According to police, they got the alcohol from a cooler in the back of a pickup truck. During an investigation, the department found that the teenagers had also received alcohol from former officer Donald Cochran, who was off-duty at the time.

Faculty and staff at the Knights of Columbus had no knowledge of the offenses.

After completion of the investigation, the department turned their findings over to the Rush County prosecutor’s office.

Cochran was placed on leave on December 3, and he turned in his resignation to the department effective December 7.
