Ron Laker

Batesville High School’s Ron Laker, BHS class of 1972, was a recent visitor in Batesville.  Ron, a Tampa, Florida, resident, is now doing a lot of motivational speaking.  The very successful businessman came to Batesville specifically to talk to the BHS boys’ basketball team.  His message was to find a role model and then do the best job you can to emulate them.  Ron was a member of the successful 1971 Bulldog team that lost in the semi-state to New Castle.  Coach Aaron Garrett has developed a comprehensive basketball alumni website, and Ron is a great example of the success of most of the Bulldog graduates who have played varsity basketball at BHS.

I had the pleasure of coaching Ron while he was at Batesville High School.  He was a member of my freshmen basketball team and I was able to work with him throughout his basketball career.  The Ripley County Basketball Hall of Famer was an excellent runner, and while at BHS he, along with Dennis Dierckman, started an excellent tradition that is still going.  Ron was, and still is, a great ambassador for Batesville Community Schools.
