The bridge located three miles west of S.R. 101 in Ripley County near the Dearborn County line is expected to be closed until August.
An official detour will route motorists around the closure via S.R. 129, S.R. 350 and S.R. 101.
Road crews are repairing the bridge with the goal of allowing better maneuverability and stopping for motorists.
The R.A. Myers Construction Company is INDOT’s contractor for the $285,825 Seymour District bridge project.
Work focuses on placing an epoxy polymer overlay atop the S.R. 48 bridge deck in order to seal it from moisture intrusion and UV ray degradation. This 2-lift overlay will be topped with chips of flint stone for a friction course that will resist wearing away.
In addition to the overlay application, repairs will be made to the bridge deck, and a concrete wall will be installed in place of the existing aluminum bridge rail.
Monday’s bridge closure is weather pending, an INDOT spokesman said.
