Ripley County Council may consider cutting the budget by two percent for nearly each county department while raising employee salaries by two percent for 2015.

The Versailles Republican is reporting that the proposal is recommended by the council’s finance committee.

Dephane Smith, council president and member of the finance committee, said some offices may be currently operating under a minimal budget so those reductions will not be possible, such as the office for Veterans Affairs.

Council members will continue reviewing the general fund and could meet with department heads during the budget hearings in August prior to making a decision.
