Richard Lee Israel, 61, of North Vernon passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at St. Vincent – Jennings Hospital Emergency Room.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday, December 16, 2013 at Sawyer – Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service. The Rev. Kenneth Corbin will officiate. Interment will be in Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM Sunday, and from 10:00 AM until the time of the service Monday at the funeral home.
Born August 13, 1952 in Madison, Richard was the son of James Robert and Dorothy May Israel. He married Pam Murrell August 22, 1992. She survives.
Mr. Israel retired from Muscatatuck Urban Training Center. He had worked 38 years between the Muscatatuck State Developmental Center and the Muscatatuck Urban Training Center. He also worked for over 40 years at Pizza King in North Vernon.  He was a member of New Marion Baptist Church, and loved watching football, basketball, geocaching, working crossword puzzles, fishing and especially watching his grandchildren play sports.
He is survived by his wife, Pam Israel of North Vernon; sons, Nicholas (Whitney) Carroll of Bedford, and Shawn Israel of Seymour; one daughter, Christina (Chris) Manning of North Vernon; brothers, Charles (Evelyn) Israel of Oldenburg, Verlin (Lois) Israel of Batesville, and Russell Israel of Osgood; one sister, Mary Jane Dodge of Mooresville; grandchildren, Dalton, Christin, and Justin Brogden, Shelbie & Hallie Manning, and Shawnathan, & Stevi Israel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Robert Israel Jr.
Memorial may be made through the funeral home to the Jennings County Panther High School Football Program.
