Richard A. Griffis

Mr. Richard A. Griffis, age 62, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on May 25, 1952, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of the late, Homer & Ruby (Wombles) Griffis. He was raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he attended high school. Richard was united in marriage on April 7, 1973, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late, Paulett (Wozniak) Griffis. Richard & Paulett shared 31 years of marriage together until she passed away in 2004. He was a former Security Guard for Argosy Casino in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. He was a former Mechanic & Laborer for several years. Richard resided in the Vevay Community, the past 5 years. Richard enjoyed making crafts & spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren. Richard died at 9:50 am, Friday, June 27, 2014, at the King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison, Indiana.

Richard will be missed by his daughter: Bethany Lyn Cormell & her husband: Joseph of Vevay, IN; his grandchildren: Jada Cormell, Emma Cormell, Rachel Gatto, Sara Cormell, Brandon Gatto, Jason Gatto, Mike Gatto, Nicholas Gatto, Brady Cormell, Mia Cormell, Jeff Burton, Tristan Griffis, Harrison Griffis & Samuel Dressellhaus; his brother: Lonnie Griffis of Cincinnati, OH.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Homer & Ruby (Wombles) Griffis; his wife: Paulett (Wozniak) Griffis; his son: James Richard Griffis, died November 2001; his grandson: Dakota Joseph Cormell, died December 16, 2008

Services will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Charity of the Donor’s Choice. Cards are available at the funeral home.

St. Louis Catholic Church is having their Mock Turtle Soup Sale! Monday, September 15- noon-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 16- 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 17-Friday, September 19- 8 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Sunday, September 21- during the annual St. Louis Church Festival, theMock Turtle Soup will be available for sale until it’s gone. Please enter through the Activity Center doors only! The soup will also be available through the week at Schmidt’s Bakery during their normal business hours. If you have any empty quart, half-gallon, or gallon jars you can spare (or canning lids and/or rings), you can bring them to the SLS Activity Center or Schmidt’s Bakery, as jars and lids are still needed to bottle the soup throughout the week.

Friends of Batesville Memorial Public Library is having their used book and media sale on Sept. 18-20, Thurs-Sat. from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. at the Library Annex on 10 W. Boehringer St.  Prices range from 25 cents to $1.  Special sale is $2 per bag on Saturday at 3 p.m. Over 8,000 books are available.
