Relay Raises $125,000 Through Past Weekend

Local residents banded together this weekend in the fight against cancer.

Organizers say the 19th annual event at Batesville High School raised upwards of $125,000.

Some participating teams and individuals were recognized over the weekend for their financial contributions and volunteerism.

The Global Atlantic-Forethought team and St. Paul Lutheran Church of Oleans were recognized for the amount of funding the groups have raised this year.

Individual awards were given to some local participants:

  • Compassion award: Carolyn Beverage
  • Courage award: Cheryl Blackburn
  • Mary Margaret Moorhead award: Janice Wilson

Donations are still being accepted on the Ripley County Relay For Life website.

Margaret Mary Health has partnered with Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati to host a Community Blood Drive on Tuesday, October 13 from 8:00 am – 11:15 am and 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm. The Hoxworth Donor Bus will be parked on Margaret Mary’s lot, located at 321 Mitchell Road in Batesville. To schedule your appointment, please visit or call the Laboratory at 812-933-5274. Hoxworth recognizes the blood donors’ time is valuable. Priority will be given to donors who have scheduled an appointment. Walk-in donors are welcome and will be seen as soon as possible.

‘Fun Crayons’ are recycled from broken crayons, then made into many fun shapes and colors. Every cent made from the proceeds of these sales goes directly for ‘Totes for Tots and Teens (Project T3).
