Priest Leaving Parish, Cites Disagreement With Archbishop

Fr. Randy Summers confirmed Sunday that he will leave St. Louis Church by the end of the month.

The pastor of St. Louis Church will soon be leaving the parish.

In a letter posted in the church bulletin on Sunday, Fr. Randy Summers, who has served as pastor since 2010, confirmed that he will depart from the parish by the end of July.

The priest said the move is the result of a disagreement with Indianapolis Archbishop Joseph W. Tobin.

Summers expressed in the letter, “My punishment is to be removed as the pastor of St. Louis and given an extended vacation to ponder what I would like to do next.”

“And as with most of these kinds of decisions, the one who truly suffers would be the people of the parish. You have my apologies for this. I want you all to know that I leave St. Louis with a sense of loss for the people whom I have loved being their pastor.”

The Annual 21st Crackaway Daze Festival will be held on September 20 – 21 at the Saltcreek Township Park in New Point, Indiana (located 8 miles east of Greensburg or 6 miles west of Batesville on Hwy 46 or south 850 just off of I-74 Exit 143. Park is on left along Hwy 46). Parade at 11:00 am on Saturday. Flea market in the park (contact Rosa at 812-593-7611 or email at rosa@etczone.com). Great food for both days (roast plus more on Saturday). Our famous fried chicken with all the trimmings on Sunday, served by the New Point Kiwanis Club. Homemade ice cream by Smyrna Church. Fun for the kids and adults (bed race, antique cars and trucks and farm equipment, kettle bean soup). Entertainment, drawings (50/50 pot), hot dog stand, snow cones and much more!
