Police Nab Greensburg Burglary Suspect

Police in Greensburg apprehended a man they say is responsible for at least three residential burglaries since Oct. 30.

The Greensburg Police Department received a call around 3:40 a.m. on Tuesday morning from a resident on Mossberg Court, near the Greensburg Country Club, reporting a prowler in the area.

While police were looking for the prowler, another call was received with a report of a burglary just a few blocks away from Mossberg Court.

“The resident reported he confronted a male in his home and male fled the residence,” Greensburg Police Chief Stacey Chasteen said.

Officers located a male that matched the description of the alleged burglar. When authorities approached, the man fled and was able to escape.

Police later determined that there were two residential entries and two attempted entries in the area of Country Club Estates.

Detectives with the Greensburg Police Department processed evidence and continued investigating the incident.

“After an exhaustive day of chasing down leads in the investigation, [Criminal Investigations Division] located and arrested James Marlin York,” said Chasteen.

York, 29, of Decatur County, was arrested on two counts of burglary, both class B felonies.

“During his interview, James also admitted to setting fire to a semi tractor trailer near Delta Faucet on West Main Street prior to the burglaries,” Chasteen explained.

York was later charged in connection to a burglary at Briarwood Apartment Complex on Oct. 30. According to Chasteen, the suspect gained entry into the office area and items were taken.

“We would like to thank the citizens of Greensburg for stepping forward and providing information that ultimately led to an arrest in this case,” said Chasteen.

The chief also recognized Detective Captain Bill Meyerrose and Detective Bob Zapfe for their work on the case.

Chasteen said, “The citizens of Greensburg should be proud of all the dedicated men and women that work hard everyday at the police department to make Greensburg a safe community to live and work.”
