Police: Don’t Fall For Sweepstakes Scam

October 17, 2013

The Batesville Police Department is warning residents of a scam that has been reported in the area.

Police have received numerous calls in reference to a caller identifying themselves as being with Publisher’s Clearinghouse.

The scammer tells a homeowner that they have won a large sum of money, and all the homeowner has to do is send a money order to a certain location to receive the award.

If you do not participate in the Publisher’s Clearinghouse Sweepstakes you are not eligible to win. Also, Publisher’s Clearinghouse will not ask for any money directly to obtain an award from them.

The Batesville Police Department reminds citizens to never give personal information out over the telephone.
